Your scalp deserve as much TLC as your face & body.
These Bad Hair-bits Are So 2022
This year, along with eating healthy, moving consciously, meditation and mindfulness, we’re adding better scalp care habits to our New Year’s resolutions. And if you haven’t already, you really should too. After all, our scalps deserve as much TLC as the skin on our face and body. With that in mind, we’re leaving these bad scalp care habits in 2022.
Washing your hair with very hot water: Standing under a hot shower might be one of the best feeling after a long day or first thing in the morning, but your scalp and hair would disagree. Extremely hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, drying out the scalp and leaving the lengths lacklustre and frizzy. Switching to lukewarm or cool water will help prevent this damage and keep your hair and scalp healthy.
Sleeping on a cotton pillow cover: Cotton is an extremely absorbent material. This means, it absorbs the natural oils from your scalp as well as moisture from the lengths of your hair leaving it dry and brittle. Plus, the cotton fibres of your pillow cover produce friction. This can lead to knotting, breakage and split ends. Switching to a silk or satin pillow cover will help preserve your scalp’s natural oils and moisture in the strands, while also reducing friction and breakage.
Not using a heat protectant: While skipping heat styling altogether is the best option for your hair, we get that you cannot bear to be separated from your blow dryer, straightening iron or curling tong. However, not using a heat protectant when heat styling is a big no-no. Heat styling strips the hair of its natural moisture and breaks down keratin (the protein that makes hair strong and bouncy) leading to significant damage. A heat protectant serves as a barrier between the heat and your hair. It helps to seal in moisture and close the cuticle making your hair look shiny, strong and healthy.
With these bad habits out of the way, here’s what your scalp and hair care routine should look like in the coming years.
Exfoliate: Exfoliating the scalp weekly helps to rid it of sebum, dead skin and product build up which in turn promotes healthy hair growth. The Bio Enzyme Scalp Mask is packed with gentle, yet effective ingredients that help exfoliate the scalp, unclog pores and promote scalp renewal without causing any irritation.
Cleanse and Condition: Washing your hair daily helps remove any dirt, pollution and sweat that accumulate on the scalp and in your hair. After washing, it’s important to condition the hair as this seals the cuticle and forms a protective coating around it. A conditioner also nourishes and fortifies each strand to make hair stronger and less prone to breakage and frizz. The Hair Rewind range of shampoos and conditioner masks are formulated together with trichologists and are packed with clinical grade skincare ingredients that help support and boost the scalp health while protecting and maintaining colour, fighting hair loss, and greys. The conditioner masks, which can also be used on the scalp, help reduce frizz, tangling and breakage of the lengths for healthier hair.
